Prepare for a security guard job
Security guards keep buildings, people and property safe. Here is the work, the rules and how to get ready.
The work
- Watch the gate or the building and check who comes in.
- Write visitors and vehicles in the visitor book.
- Walk around the building (patrol) at set times.
- Work in shifts, also at night.
What employers look for
- Good health and a clean, smart look.
- Staying awake and watchful for the whole shift.
- Simple English to speak with visitors.
- Honesty, and calm in a problem.
Rules of the post
- Never leave your post until the next guard comes.
- Report anything strange to your supervisor at once.
- In a fire or emergency, follow the plan and call for help.
- Wear the uniform and keep your ID card with you.
At the interview
- Come clean and neatly dressed, with short hair.
- Say where you worked as a guard before, if you did.
